Positive info about Nashville's skatepark

Nashville Parks and Rec seems very happy with their free, open access, lighted, all concrete public skatepark.

(Superintendent of Metro Parks and Recreation, John) Holmes said the Skatepark has not been much of a burden on the city since there is so little maintenance and upkeep involved.

"One thing about this group or this culture is they police it themselves," Holmes said. "They take pride in keeping the trash off the actual skate surface. We've left brooms out, and they'll sweep it themselves."

Outrageous!

Those of us who grew up during the 70's will flashback when we hear the name "Lonnie Toft". He was a SIMS rider who pioneered wide skateboards and the Outrageous 8-wheeler. Lonnie has a website with a nice selection of late 70's ads and photos. Check it out!

It's About TIME

Swoop-Swoop! TIME magazine published a decent little article featuring design-build skateparks and their creators:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1220532-1,00.html

There's also a photo essay "on the history and evolution of skateboarding" ... but it looks like the editors left out the 1980's and 90's.
